DepEd Angeles City Division Celebrates World Teacher’s Day
UNESCO proclaimed 5 October to be World Teachers’ Day in 1994, celebrating the great step made for teachers on 5 October 1966, when a special intergovernmental conference convened by UNESCO in Paris adopted the UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, in cooperation with the ILO.
According to UNESCO, this recommendation sets forth the rights and responsibilities of teachers as well as international standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, teaching and learning conditions. Since its adoption, the Recommendation has been considered an important set of guidelines to promote teachers’ status in the interest of quality education.
Department of Education Angeles City division had their own way of celebrating the hard works of our educators. The celebration was held at SM City Clark in Pampanga which also happens to be one of their sponsors for the event. Hundreds of teachers all over Angeles gathered on the event. Some teacher, school heads and division officers and staffs showcased some performance that really hyped the event.
A fashion show of proud kapampangan designers was also part of the event. Designers showcased their Philippines National Costume inspired collection on afternoon part of the event, and the teachers serves as their models. The said fashion show was entitled “Gayak” coined in a kapampangan word meaning “to dress.”
The event was overall successful after witnessing the delightful smiles coming from all the teachers and seeing them feeling appreciated on their very special day was way too priceless.
