Mass Transport Project for Baguio City Set P11.5 B

New projects for Baguio City, Philippines are in the line as a private company plans to put up a mass transport project and make Baguio the first urban center to pilot the green ecosystem and electric-powered monorail system.

Metro Global Holdings Corp. is proposing to the local government of Baguio a P11.5 billion mass transport project composed of a four-kilometer elevated monorail around the central business district area and battery-composed buses.

A part of Metro Global’s plan is to ease the traffic congestion in Baguio City, which is a popular destination for tourists, especially during the summer season.

According to Metro Global Holdings Corporation (MGH) Chairman Robert John Sobrepeña, the project will be fully funded by the company through the public-private partnership over a 50-year period of the franchise.

MGH and Baguio City previously signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in September 2020, for the development of the said mass transport project.
