Work Pushes at LRT1 Cavite Extension
After years of delays the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) in Metro Manila held a ceremony for the Cavite extension project on May 4, 2017.
Back in 2014, Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC), backed by Ayala Corp. and Metro Pacific Investment Corp., bagged a P65-Billion LRT-1 Cavite extension public pride partnership project.
According to the President and CEO of Light Rail Manila Rogelio Singson the project would be finished by 2022. He added that commercial operation for Cavite line was poised to begin by early 2021.
The event was led by Department of Transportation secretary Arthur Tugade, Public Works and Highways secretary Mark Villar, Ayala CEO Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, and Metro Pacific CEO Jose Lim, and Sen. Cynthia Villar.
LRMC would pay about P35 Billion for the expansion and the remainder will be shouldered by the government, which also deliver new train cars from Japanese Suppliers. Singson also added that the LRT-1 extended capacity will double to about 800,000. The Cavite expansion projects will have an initial eight stations.
Once completed the travel time from Baccor to Manila would be 20 minutes shorter compared to the two or more hours.
