Proposed Designs of Common Station for LRT-MRT Released by DOTr
On Wednesday, January 18, the government and the private builders finally signed a memorandum of agreement indicating the construction of the common station for the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT). This project was said to begin on December this year.
The P2.8-billion MRT-LRT common station project is said to be 13,700-square-meter and will be built between SM North EDSA and Trinoma malls both located in Quezon City. This said project will connect the LRT1, the MRT3 together with the MRT7, which is targeted to be finished in the year 2020.
Here the 3 main areas of the common station:
- Area A where the platform and concourse for LRT1 and MRT3 are located
- Area B where the two concourses connecting Areas A and C are located
- Area C where the platform for MRT7 is located
- This common station was targeted to be complete by 2019.
According to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the benefits of this projecty includes “seamless transfer from one line to another, a more convenient walk for platform transfers, a bigger space, and a connection to two major mall which is the SM North EDSA and TriNoma.”
The following images were provided by the DOTr. These are the proposed designs of the common station. DOTr said “these designs will still be presented to concerned constituents, and local officials to be able to incorporate concerns from various sectors.”
