Voter’s Registration Surge as 2022 National Elections Approaches
A massive increase in the number of voters has been recorded by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) as the 2022 National Elections in the Philippines fast approaches.
The latest data from the Election Records and Statistics Department (ERSD) show that a total number of 1,339,346 new registrations were processed as of February 4, 2021.
A few weeks before this massive surge in numbers were reported, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon initially said that they were behind their four-million target of new registrants.
Despite the fear of CoVid-19 pandemic in the Philippines, Comelec is still encouraging Filipinos who are at the age of 18 and above to register and vote in the May 22, 2022 Elections.
Guanzon added that those who want to register, specifically teenagers, can come and register to Comelec offices from 8 AM to 3 PM, Tuesdays to Saturdays (including holidays), from 8 AM to 5 PM.
