PH recognized by World Travel Awards as Asia’s leading beach destination
The Philippines landed on top spot in the 27th World Travel Awards for 2020 as Asia’s leading beach and dive destination. The award-giving body also declared Intramuros as Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction, while the Department of Tourism as the leading tourist board in Asia.
The prestigious awards programme acknowledged the Philippines for the fourth time as the leading beach destination due to its pristine beaches, including its diving spots where the country was recognized for the second time since the World Travel Awards was established in 1993.
Meanwhile, Manila’s famous tourist hotspot Intramuros was recognized for the second time as Asia’s leading tourist attraction for 2020 because of its historical details of the Spanish-era landmarks in the Philippines such as Fort Santiago and Manila Cathedral.
The Department of Tourism (DOT), recognized also for the second time as Asia’s leading tourist board said that it is truly honored and thankful for the recognitions given to the Philippines in 2020.
According to DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, these recognitions are certainly an inspiration to the tourism industry as they safely and gradually reopen certain destinations.
She also recognized the contribution of its stakeholders, local government units, partner agencies, and the Filipino people.
