PH’s German community marks ‘27 Years of Unity’

MAKATI, METRO MANILA – On the invitation of the German Ambassador to the Philippines, Dr. Gordon Kricke, special guest former President Fidel V. Ramos, members, and friends of the German community in the Philippines gathered at the New World Hotel Makati to celebrate the German national holiday of unity and peace.

Members of the Philippine-German community marked the 27th year of Germany’s peaceful reunification with a gala night. Among those present are the Honorable Washington Sycip (Former President of the International Federation of Accountants); Dr. Roland Schissau, German Emabssy’s Deputy Head of Mission (back row, fourth from the left); and German and Philippine businessmen working in the Philippine.

With “27 Years of German Unity” as its central theme, the gala night saw businessmen and political leaders both from the Philippine and German side celebrate the reunification of Germany.

The peaceful reunification of Germany is originally celebrated in the homeland on the 3rd of October. However, members and friends of Philippines’ German community celebrated it a day later.

Philippine’s most popular classical singer in Germany, Ena Maria Aldecoa performed the National anthems to the unique sound of a Steingraeber piano. Ena Maria Aldecoa recently performed in Wiesbaden and in Frankfurt.

One of the gala night’s guests of honor was Former Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos.

Ramos is a veteran of the EDSA People Power Revolution of 1986, which is strikingly similar to Germany’s peaceful reunification, when the communist regime in Europe tumbled down without violence.

The Bavarian Sound Express made the night more meaningful with their traditional German melodies. The same band is expected to perform at the upcoming Oktoberfest on October 6 and 7, 2017.

The guests socialized all night and shared traditional delicacies while recreating Germany’s national holiday here in the Philippines.
